James Dondero began his career as a financial analyst as all good analysts do – by getting the proper training. In 1984, he completed his studies at the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, where he studied both Accounting and Finance – and still graduated with honors. Upon completion, he was invited to join the Morgan Guaranty training program, which he completed. He also became a Certified Management Accountant and a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Following this intense training, Mr. Dondero went on to work for American Express in 1985, where he was tasked with analyzing corporate bonds. But James’ career is highlighted by the founding, and success, of Highland Capital Management in 1989, where his current title is President & Co-Founder. Because of his leadership, Highland Capital Management has earned awards for both their services and their systems for both individual and corporate investors. The company is now responsible for over thirteen billion dollars in assets. Highland Capital Management is affiliated with various financial institutions, including NexPoint and Acis Capital Management. The organization has received awards from Lipper and Morningstar.
